An apartment complex located in Mukherjee Nagar, built between 2007-09, comprising 336 MIG and HIG flats, faces potential demolition by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) due to construction issues. The Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of Signature View Apartments in northwest Delhi raised concerns about four blocks in a deteriorating state, warning the DDA about their imminent risk of collapse.

In a recent meeting between the RWA and the DDA, RWA president Amrendra Kumar Rakesh highlighted the unsafe condition of blocks D, E, I, and L, flagged in an IIT Delhi report for urgent evacuation and dismantling. The RWA urged the DDA to ensure the safe relocation of residents and initiate rent payments for alternative accommodation.

Specifically, they requested immediate rent support for residents of blocks D and E, identified as most vulnerable, to aid in their swift relocation, considering the majority of owners or allottees have consented to vacate.

Rakesh emphasized that if the DDA acceded to this request, most residents would willingly evacuate their flats. Furthermore, the RWA assured that if the demand was met, they would refrain from legal action or supporting the nine petitioners in their various demands presented to the court.

However, should the DDA decline the request for rent support with relocation, the RWA indicated they would be compelled to seek legal recourse.

Previously, the DDA had proposed paying rent only if all 336 flats were vacated simultaneously. The RWA contested this condition due to difficulty in securing keys from all owners at once and proposed reducing the mandatory vacancy requirement from 100% to 75%, hoping the remaining owners would follow suit soon.

Yet, with nine residents obtaining a stay order from the Delhi High Court against further DDA action, the matter now rests with the court, as communicated by the DDA.

The RWA informed the DDA that 100 flats were already vacant, and approximately 210 owners had consented to vacate by Thursday.
