Delhi Taxpayers Face Deadline: As the deadline for taxpayers to geotag their properties approaches, only 78,000 tags have been issued, mainly in non-residential areas. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi warns that failure to geotag properties by Jan 31 will result in the loss of rebates for taxpayers.

Despite around 13 lakh properties being assigned the unique property identification code (UPIC) among 14 lakh taxpayers, the majority struggle to comply with the geotagging requirement. In unauthorised colonies, the geotagging process appears non-existent.

MCD officials note that people are delaying, anticipating a rush at the last moment. They assure the process is simple and expect increased participation by month-end, citing over 200 camps, meetings with RWAs, and market associations.

Since December last year, MCD mandated geotagging for property tax rebates. Those failing to geotag by Jan 31, 2024, will miss a 10% rebate on the lump sum advance payment for the 2024-25 financial year by June 30.

Geotagging assigns a unique latitude-longitude marker to properties on a GIS map, ensuring their geographical identification. This aids MCD in identifying properties in densely populated areas with unclear addresses, displaying them on the GIS map.
