The Union Cabinet has approved the development of an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) worth ₹417 crore in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Budh Nagar district, aimed at boosting domestic electronics production and innovation under the Centre’s flagship scheme, as reported by Hindustan Times.
To be developed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), the cluster will span 206.4 acres in Sector 10 of the Yamuna Expressway region. The project is scheduled for completion by January 2028.
According to the official approval, the cluster excludes land cost but includes ₹144 crore in financial support from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The remaining cost will be financed by YEIDA.
Officials estimate the project will attract investments worth ₹2,500 crore and create nearly 15,000 jobs.
Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the decision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of strengthening India’s manufacturing sector and building a “Viksit Bharat.”
Havells India Ltd. has been confirmed as the anchor investor, committing ₹800 crore for a manufacturing facility on a 50-acre plot. The unit will produce a range of domestic appliances including fans, air conditioners, coolers, lighting equipment, switchgear, and cables.
The cluster will also feature key infrastructure such as a skill development center, a convention hall, and a three-story hostel block. It is expected to support a wide spectrum of electronics manufacturing, from industrial electronics to medical devices, computer hardware, and communication equipment.
Strategically located near the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, the EMC 2.0 aims to serve as a manufacturing hub with proximity to logistics and infrastructure support.
This development follows last month’s announcement of an HCL-Foxconn semiconductor OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility near Jewar. The ₹3,700-crore unit will be the sixth such project under the Centre’s India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).
Further support for electronics manufacturing is anticipated from the Uttar Pradesh government, which is preparing a top-up incentive package valued at over ₹10,000 crore. This will supplement the Centre’s Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), officials familiar with the matter said.
A senior government official noted that Uttar Pradesh contributes 25% of India’s electronics manufacturing output and 50% of the nation’s mobile phone production. While Tamil Nadu leads in exports, UP holds the top spot in overall electronics manufacturing, particularly concentrated in Greater Noida and the Yamuna Expressway region.
