Earlier also referred to as the first suburb of Delhi, Faridabad was slowly started getting shadowed in face of growing cities like Gurugram and Noida. Now, though, the roles have reversed as the improved connectivity and infrastructure have led to Faridabad coming back in the limelight.

An example of this resurgence is the number of top global brands that have come in to open their flagship stores. According to the Kearney Index, in 2023, Faridabad climbed the ranks from its 2021 standing to secure the 13th spot nationwide, highlighting its increasing strength in the retail sector.

In the recent past, unorganized retailers dominated the Indian retail market, making up nearly 90% of the sector. However, the landscape has shifted significantly in recent years, with organized retail rapidly expanding and now contributing approximately 5% to India’s GDP.

Malls, and Retail Parks that witnessed massive development have totally changed the shopping scenario in the city which did not exist before. With a wide variety of products and shopping options, ranging from high-end luxury brands to daily necessities, these commercial centres cater to the needs of different consumers.

The USP of the organized retail sector in Faridabad is its capability to invite international and national brands in full swing. Some of the most successful global brands have opened their outlets in this city initially to cater for its middle class and more importantly, Gurgaon is considered as a strategic between Delhi itself & also rest NCR(National Capital Region) With such global brand entries, residents too have been exposed to a world where they find high end fashion trends and latest technology  on reaching at the stores.

On the domestic front, Faridabad’s retail scene has also seen an increase of popular Indian brands, which have found a receptive market in the city’s consumers. The presence of both international and national brands has created a world class retail environment that appeals to a wide audience, from local shoppers to tourists.

Faridabad’s development story goes beyond just residential growth; it is also becoming a notable commercial center with an 8% rise in the retail sector. This progress is improved by the presence of well-known educational institutions, new shopping complexes, and the introduction of smart homes, attracting a diverse population to Greater Faridabad. These factors contribute to the city’s shift towards a sustainable urban environment, establishing Faridabad as a city on the rise.

As a prominent destination within the Delhi NCR region, Faridabad’s growth is fueled by its prime location and strong connectivity to Delhi and Gurgaon. The city is experiencing an 8% annual economic growth rate and a 15% surge in demand for corporate office spaces over the last year. Projections suggest that Faridabad will welcome 30,000 professionals annually over the next five years, reflecting its rapid expansion.

Over the past five years, Faridabad has maintained an average annual GDP growth rate of 7%, with expectations of an 8% annual increase by 2030. The city’s healthcare sector is also undergoing significant growth, with an anticipated 15% annual rise in its contribution to the economy, supported by favourable government policies. Furthermore, the upcoming Jewar Airport is expected to dramatically boost business activity, with traffic projected to increase fivefold compared to IGI Airport.

Jatin Goel, Executive Director, Omaxe Group, said, “Faridabad is stepping into a new era of retail, where the city is not just a shopping destination but a lavish experience that resonates on both national and international levels. Marked by the arrival of international brands that once required residents to travel to Noida or Gurugram.

“Today, the city is carving out its own identity, merging a global atmosphere with its distinct local charm. As real estate developers, we envision Faridabad as a model of sustainable urban growth, and identity as a destination that combines international ambiance with the city’s distinctive charm The transformation marks Faridabad’s rise as a key player in the retail landscape of India, and we at are proud to be at the forefront of this recreational journey.”

Sanjeev Arora, Director, 360 Realtors said, “Faridabad has long lived in the shadows of other major cities in NCR such as Delhi and Gurgaon. However, now things are changing for this industrial town located across Delhi Mathura Road. As the cost of living is rising in neighbouring cities, many migrant workforces are now shifting to Faridabad in search of better living and affordable pricing.

“This is also changing the retail mix of the city, with an increased footprint of advanced formats such as malls, SCOs, open malls, arcades, shopping complexes, modern bazars, etc. Last year in October, The Mall of Faridabad has been unveiled, a large size mall spread across 400,000 Sq. Ft area.

“The satellite town has all the leading fashion, apparel, lifestyle, F&B brand stores. Other forms of larger retails such as multi brand stores, super markets, hyper markets, lifestyle brands stores, etc. are also thriving. The retail industry in Faridabad will continue to grow at a spurred pace. The satellite town also enjoys great connectivity and improved infrastructure. After opening of the Yamuna Bridge, it will take just 20 mins from Jewar Airport to reach Faridabad.”

Organized retail has played a crucial role in this transformation, offering residents and visitors a world-class shopping experience that was once only available in more established cities. As Faridabad continues to attract investment, talent, and tourism, it stands to become a leading retail and commercial hub in the National Capital Region. This evolution not only highlights Faridabad’s growing significance but also positions it as a city of the future, where modernity and tradition seamlessly coexist.
