The Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has carried out a significant operation, demolishing approximately 2,000 shanties on ten acres of prime land in Sector 49, Gurugram. The purpose of this action is to clear the land for a prominent group housing project and plotted development.

This move was initiated following a directive from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which instructed the HSVP to conduct a comprehensive survey of the encroached area and share the details of their actions to address the issue. A legal petition related to the encroachment had been pending in the high court until the court’s decision favored the HSVP. Subsequently, the authority appointed a duty magistrate to oversee the demolition operation.

The demolition took place on a Friday and marked the initial phase of a broader campaign aimed at clearing a substantial 26-acre expanse designated for HSVP’s group housing project.

With the removal of encroachments, plans for a group housing society, plot cutting, and the Ashiana housing scheme are actively in progress. Fencing work will commence as soon as the encroachment is eradicated to prevent future illegal occupation.

This year, HSVP officials initiated an auction covering plots totaling 60 acres, with the primary objective of generating substantial revenue. Additionally, a large-scale demolition drive was initiated to reclaim HSVP-owned land from encroachers. The auction encompassed 28 sites located in various sectors, including 9, 9A, 10A, 28, 31/32A, 37C, 38, 39, 42, 43, 45, 48, 49, 53, 54, and 56.

Earlier this year, a bench of esteemed justices, GS Sandhawalia and Harpreet Kaur Jeewan, observed that in several cases, land in the district had been acquired over two decades ago, with the state having deposited compensation running into hundreds of crores. However, encroachers had continued to possess the land at the state’s expense by challenging petitions filed by the HSVP. The court ultimately passed an order that favored the authority and validated its efforts to reclaim the land.

This operation by the HSVP marks a triumph in the battle against encroachment and sets the stage for remarkable future developments in the heart of Gurugram. The revenue generated through these strategic endeavors is expected to bring immense benefits to the community and further the region’s growth.
