Development work on the Jewar airport is progressing as scheduled. The proposed airport will be named Noida International Greenfield Airport and is expected to be ready by December 2023.
In a meeting conducted on Dec.17, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved the design, name and logo of the international airport to be constructed in Noida’s Jewar.
“First look of the design has been approved. Saras (stork), the state bird, has been chosen as the logo and the name of the airport will be Noida International Greenfield Airport,” Arun Vir Singh, CEO of Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), told Moneycontrol.
The decision was taken in a meeting attended by all stakeholders, including officials of the Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), the special purpose vehicle of Zurich airport International AG, CEO of Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), and other senior officers.
Land Acquisition For Noida International Greenfield Airport, Jewar
The proposed Jewar airport is expected to be built in an area of around 1,334 hectares in Greater Noida. The land for the project has already been acquired by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority in Noida. The resettlement, as well as rehabilitation of over three thousand families who are getting displaced due to the airport project, is expected to be completed by May 2021.
For the first phase development of the airport, over 1,300 hectare of land from six villages of Rohi, Ranhera, Kishorepur, Parohi, Dayanatpu, and Banwari Bans in the Jewar tehsil has been acquired.
Developer and Architect Of Noida International Greenfield Aiport, Jewar
The airport will be developed by Switzerland-headquartered private company Zurich Airport International AG while the project’s development will be monitored by NIAL, a nodal agency floated by the state government of UP. Members of this team have reportedly designed the Hyderabad airport and the new Istanbul airport.
The team will work closely with a consortium consisting of Nordic, Grimshaw, Haptic and STUP to design this long-envisioned strategic project at Jewar.
The concessionaire of the upcoming airport at Jewar, Yamuna International Airport Pvt. Ltd (YIAPL), plans to complete all the financing agreements for the project by April 2021 and begin construction soon after in the second quarter.
Capacity of Noida International Greenfield Airport, Jewar
In the first phase, the airport will have two runways and will have the capacity to cater about 12 million passengers per annum. Going further, the airport will have five runways and the capacity to cater to 30 million passengers on the completion of second phase, 50 million in the third phase, and 70 million passengers by the end of the fourth phase.
As per multiple sources, the Noida International Greenfield Airport will primarily take care of domestic, and short- and mid-haul international flights thereby focusing on connectivity in north India, metropolitan areas in south India, and international connections especially to the Middle East and East Asia.
The proposed airport in Jewar will be NCR’s second international airport and a major infrastructure in the region. The development of the airport is expected to speed up development of industrial infrastructure, increase employment opportunities, encourage manufacturing and exports.
“This airport will become the pride of India and will be one of the best in the world. We will present it as a global brand,” the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said.
