In a bid to provide affordable housing solutions near Mumbai, the Konkan board of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced its second lottery of the year, featuring 5,311 affordable homes in satellite towns, including Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts. These housing units will be available at prices ranging from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 49 lakh.
Among these, over 1,000 homes are eligible under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY). The government’s recent decision to raise the income limit for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh is expected to result in a surge of applications in this category.
Sanjeev Jaiswal, Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of MHADA, stated, “Applicants can submit their applications until October 16, 2023, with the lottery results set to be announced on November 7.”
These affordable homes will be situated in micro-markets near Mumbai, including Vasai, Virar, Titwala, Thane, Kalyan, and Mumbra, among others, as outlined in the MHADA list.
In terms of size and pricing, these homes will range from 258 to 667 sq ft in carpet area. The most affordable apartments, priced at Rs 9.89 lakh, will be located in Vasai and have an area of approximately 258 sq ft. The costliest units, priced at Rs 49.81 lakh and with an area of around 667 sq ft, will be situated in Virar. Several of these apartments are part of ongoing construction projects.
MHADA has streamlined the registration process for the lottery, making it entirely online and accessible through their website at https://housing.mhada.gov.in/.
This announcement closely follows the release of the results for the Mumbai MHADA lottery in August 2023. Additionally, the MHADA’s Pune board unveiled plans to sell 5,863 affordable homes in Pune, Solapur, Sangli, and Kolhapur on September 6, 2023, through a lottery system.
These apartments are priced in the range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 1.11 crore. Out of the 5,863 affordable homes, 2,445 will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with the application deadline set for September 27. The apartments come in configurations of 1 RK, 1 BHK, 2 BHK, and 3 BHK, varying in size from 204 sq ft carpet area to 1,087 sq ft. The most affordable apartment, priced at Rs 5 lakh, is situated in Kagal, a town in Kolhapur district, and boasts a carpet area of around 312 sq ft.
