NEW DELHI — The construction of the New Ashok Nagar station, a key component of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS), is nearing completion, as reported by Financial Express Officials have confirmed that the track-laying work is finished, and final touches are being added to the station. This station is poised to be the first RRTS facility in the Delhi section to be completed.

    Construction Update

The New Ashok Nagar station, standing at approximately 22 meters in height, is one of four stations in the Delhi segment of the RRTS. According to officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the tracks have been laid, the roof has been constructed, and minor finishing works are underway.

    Foot Overbridges for Seamless Connectivity

Three foot overbridges (FOBs) are being constructed to enhance connectivity between the New Ashok Nagar RRTS station, the New Ashok Nagar metro station, and the surrounding areas. These FOBs are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

    • Metro Station FOB: This 100-meter-long and 6-meter-wide foot overbridge will connect the concourse level of the New Ashok Nagar metro station to the floor below the concourse level of the RRTS station. The FOB will stand at approximately 8 meters in height. The area between the ticket gate of the metro station and the non-paid area below the concourse level of the RRTS station will be connected by this bridge.
    • Chilla Village and Mayur Vihar Extension FOB: This foot overbridge, measuring 41 meters in length and 6.5 meters in width, will link the RRTS station to Chilla Village and Mayur Vihar Extension, improving accessibility for local residents.
    • Shiv Temple FOB: The third foot overbridge, spanning 49 meters in length and 8 meters in width, will be located near the ancient Shiv temple, providing easier access for residents of New Ashok Nagar.

    Upcoming Trial Runs

Officials have stated that trial runs on the 12-kilometer stretch between Sahibabad and Anand Vihar, which includes the New Ashok Nagar RRTS station, could commence by the last quarter of the year. These trial runs are a critical step in ensuring the system’s operational readiness.

    Overall Corridor Progress

The RRTS corridor spans a total of 82 kilometers, with 14 kilometers in Delhi and 68 kilometers in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, a 34-kilometer section between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North, including eight stations, is operational. Additionally, an 8-kilometer stretch from Modi Nagar to Meerut South is set to open soon.

    Future Developments

    • Anand Vihar RRTS Station: Construction at Anand Vihar is in advanced stages.
    • Sarai Kale Khan Station: Work is progressing at Sarai Kale Khan station.
    • Jangpura Station: The development of Jangpura station will occur later, as it is being integrated with a stabling yard.

    Enhancing Regional Connectivity

The completion of the New Ashok Nagar station and the subsequent trial runs represent significant milestones for the RRTS project. Once fully operational, the RRTS will dramatically reduce travel time between Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, offering a fast, reliable, and efficient transit option for commuters.
