A new 400-meter circular skywalk is set to be constructed at the busy Sector 62/63 intersection in Noida. It aims to ease pedestrian movement and reduce traffic congestion. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹40 crore, has received in-principle approval from authorities.

The skywalk will cater to around 50,000 pedestrians daily, according to officials. Many of these pedestrians are commuters from Delhi, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Noida. The structure will offer a safer alternative for those navigating the intersection, which currently sees heavy foot and vehicle traffic.

The skywalk is located near the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. It will feature a circular design. An iron roof will cover it to shield users from the sun and rain. The project will include escalators and elevators on both sides. This design makes it accessible for senior citizens. It is also designed for women and people with disabilities.

The new structure will integrate with the existing foot overbridge on the expressway. This integration enables seamless pedestrian access between Ghaziabad and Noida. It does so without interfering with vehicular traffic. Initial plans had proposed a simple footbridge. However, a recent survey led officials to revise the plan. They opted for a more comprehensive solution.

The project report was submitted in detail. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is currently reviewing the design. Once approved, construction is expected to begin shortly thereafter.

The skywalk forms part of a broader initiative by the Noida Authority to upgrade infrastructure in the area. A 3.5-kilometer model road from Sector 62 to Mamura is also in the works. The corridor is a key transit route, home to numerous office complexes, metro stations, and residential developments. During peak hours, the stretch often experiences severe traffic bottlenecks.

The authority is planning additional upgrades to address these challenges. These upgrades include road widening and footpath construction. They also plan to improve parking facilities and redesign U-turn points. Three major U-turns between NH-9 and Mamura Chowk, currently responsible for frequent slowdowns, will be revamped.

In a move to manage auto-rickshaw traffic, a new stand will be constructed at the NH-9 entry. Officials say tenders for the project have been floated, and several agencies have shown interest.

The skywalk and its associated developments are expected to significantly improve pedestrian safety. They will also streamline traffic flow in one of Noida’s busiest transit hubs.
