The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Thursday launched a unified Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) portal to promote transparency, streamline data access, and facilitate better coordination among states and union territories, as published by The Economic Times.
The announcement came during the fifth meeting of the Central Advisory Council (CAC), where Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar unveiled the new portal — rera.mohua.gov.in. The platform is intended to serve as a single-window system for stakeholders, including homebuyers, developers, and state authorities, to access real-time information about registered real estate projects and agents across India.
“This unified portal is a significant step forward in bringing transparency and accountability to the real estate sector,” Khattar said, adding that RERA has already brought discipline to the industry, empowered consumers, and ensured timely delivery of projects.
Officials said the portal would also enable the sharing of best practices among states and help build a nationwide real estate database. Thirty-five states and union territories have set up their RERA authorities, while 29 have established appellate tribunals, and 27 have appointed adjudicating officers. According to the ministry, over 1.5 lakh real estate projects and more than 1 lakh agents are currently registered under RERA, and more than 1.47 lakh consumer complaints have been addressed.
Tokhan Sahu, a senior official with the housing ministry, said the regulatory framework has transformed the real estate industry over the past eight years. He emphasized that resolving stalled housing projects and addressing buyer grievances would be a top priority moving forward.
The advisory council also focused on recommendations from a committee led by G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, aimed at reviving legacy stalled projects. Uttar Pradesh has already adopted these recommendations, and the council urged other states to follow suit.
Key proposals discussed included developing standard operating procedures to improve the enforcement of RERA orders, expediting project registrations, and ensuring consistency in definitions and regulatory processes across states. The council also recommended creating a central-level committee within the housing ministry that would include representatives from all stakeholder groups to ensure that RERA regulations remain consistent with the intent of the Act.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Housing Secretary Srinivas Katikithala, Joint Secretary Kuldip Narayan, and RERA authority representatives from across India.
The ministry believes the unified portal will be instrumental in supporting informed decision-making for homebuyers, enhancing policy formulation, and offering a clearer view of trends shaping the real estate sector.
