Construction has finally begun on two Unitech housing projects, Sunbreeze in Sector 69 and Vistas in Sector 70, after a delay of around 16 years since their launch.

The Supreme Court gave permission for the construction to proceed, bringing relief to the approximately 1,900 buyers who had invested in these projects back in 2008 and 2009. Originally scheduled for completion in 2012, the projects faced numerous setbacks, causing frustration among buyers.

YS Malik, a retired IAS officer serving as chairman and managing director of Unitech, confirmed that the tender process for construction has been finalized. He estimated completion within the next 18 to 36 months, with a significant portion of the units already sold.

The projects faced financial difficulties, leading to bankruptcy and halting of construction. Following Supreme Court intervention, a new management team, led by Malik, was put in place to oversee the projects’ revival.

Malik assured buyers that structural and health audits have been conducted, ensuring the safety of the buildings. With environmental clearance obtained, construction has commenced.

Buyers expressed relief at the progress, acknowledging the years of uncertainty they endured. They cautiously welcomed the resolution framework mandated by the Supreme Court, hoping for timely delivery of their long-awaited homes.

Piyush Gupta, a buyer at Unitech Vistas, expressed optimism about the project’s completion within the court-approved timeline. He urged fellow buyers to fulfill their financial obligations promptly to avoid further delays in construction.
