The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is gearing up to acquire an additional 1,200 hectares of land for the expansion of the upcoming Noida International Airport by the end of this year. This excess land will be procured from six villages located near the Aligarh district border.
Earlier this month, the Uttar Pradesh government granted approval for the airport’s expansion and the aviation hub. With the inclusion of this 1,200-hectare land, the airport’s boundaries will be extended to the borders of the proposed logistics park in the Aligarh district.
A senior YEIDA official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the 1,200 hectares will be acquired from six villages: Mangaroli, Bhabokra, Deorar, Sadullapur, Ahmadpur Choroli, and Alabalpur. These villages are strategically situated between the Jewar airport area and the proposed logistics park. The expansion of the aviation hub is designed to attract international companies engaged in the manufacturing of airplane spare parts. This additional land will facilitate the establishment of aviation-related manufacturing companies near the upcoming airport.
The land acquisition process is expected to commence in the coming two months. Any changes related to the expansion of the aviation hub and the airport will be integrated into the Master Plan 2041 before being submitted to the state government for final approval.
As a result of this acquisition, the upcoming airport, originally planned to be spread across 6,554 hectares, will now encompass 7,754 hectares. Out of the initial 6,554 hectares of land, nearly 4,752 hectares are being acquired in four phases. The first two phases, totaling 2,729 hectares, have already been acquired, with the second phase designated for a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility.
The process for land acquisition for the third and fourth phases is currently underway. The state government has issued a notification for a social impact assessment (SIA) by Gautam Buddha University. These two phases encompass 2,053 hectares of land and will primarily be utilized for the construction of three runways at the airport, along with other necessary facilities. The remaining 1,800 hectares are government-owned land.
The Noida International Airport is expected to commence operations in September 2024. Its proximity to the Yamuna Expressway will facilitate tourist travel to Agra, Mathura, and Vrindavan.
On October 13, 2023, S. P. Goyal, additional chief secretary to the UP Chief Minister, along with the additional chief secretary for Civil Aviation in UP, inspected the airport site and reviewed the progress of construction and land acquisition processes. The runway and the air traffic control (ATC) tower are projected to be completed by March 2024.
