Bengaluru’s ambitious Peripheral Ring Road (PRR), also known as the Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC) project, has received a significant boost with the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) approving complete funding of ₹27,000 crore.

As reported by the Hindustan Times, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is set to use this investment to expedite the infrastructure project aimed at enhancing city connectivity.

In a push to speed up land acquisition for the 73-kilometer corridor, eight new land acquisition officers were appointed to the BDA on Monday. The PRR will link Tumakuru Road with Hosur Road, traversing major routes like Doddaballapur Road, Bellary Road, and Old Madras Road. To facilitate smoother acquisition processes, the BDA will establish a new office in Yelahanka and additional offices near the 76 villages where land is set for acquisition.

The project, which spans 2,560 acres, has faced notable delays, especially concerning the transfer of 193 acres of government land promised under a 2022 Government Order. Ensuring timely compensation to landowners has also been a challenge, with complexities around identifying rightful recipients. To address this, the BDA is setting up satellite offices closer to affected villages to assist landowners and simplify procedures.

The BDA has committed to resolving the compensation and land acquisition process within the next six months, aiming to reduce the burden on landowners by decreasing the need for them to travel to the central office.

In a parallel development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his cabinet recently unveiled the Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Innovation (KWIN) City near Bengaluru, which was previously called Knowledge, Health, Innovation, and Research (KHIR) City. Designed as a complementary hub to Bengaluru, KWIN City will be located between Doddaspete and Doddaballapur, about 60 kilometers from the city, covering 2,000 acres on the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR).

This new city aims to provide balanced growth and expanded opportunities in sectors such as technology, healthcare, and research, enabling equitable development within reach of Karnataka’s capital.

The strategic development of both the BBC and KWIN projects reflects Karnataka’s commitment to infrastructure growth, offering substantial potential to transform regional connectivity and drive economic expansion.
