In a recent development, around 200 farmers in six villages have been served notices by the Gautam Budh Nagar district administration for constructing illegal structures on land earmarked for the second phase of the Noida International Airport. The notices warn of impending action, including the demolition of unauthorized structures, with farmers bearing the cost of the demolition.

The administration highlighted that construction, sale, or purchase is strictly prohibited after the issuance of a gazette notification on land acquisition, which occurred in November 2022 for the 1,363 acres of land slated for Phase 2 of the Jewar Airport.

Officials revealed that instances of illegal construction on the designated airport land have surged in recent months. The motivation behind such actions is often to claim higher compensation, as the government typically provides more compensation for land with existing structures. However, this advantage is only applicable to structures built before the land is officially notified for acquisition.

The district administration emphasized that any construction post-notification is considered illegal, subject to appropriate action. The warning extends to farmers who may attempt to build on the notified land, with potential consequences outlined in the notices.

Phase 2 of the Noida International Airport project entails the acquisition of 1,363.45 hectares, affecting approximately 3,800 families in six villages—Ranhera, Dayanatpur, Karoli Bangar, Birampur, Kureb, and Mundhera. The estimated cost of land acquisition for the second phase is Rs 2,891 crore, of which Rs 1,084 crore has already been received from the Uttar Pradesh government. The land acquisition process commenced in November 2022.

Arun Vir Singh, the Chief Executive Officer of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), responsible for the project, anticipates the completion of the first phase of the Noida International Airport by September 30, 2023. Singh projects around five million passengers on the inaugural day of the new airport’s operation.
