The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has launched an official chatbot service. This move aims to enhance transparency and prevent fraud. It provides residents with property tax-related information through phone calls and text messages, The Economic Times reported.
According to officials, the chatbot will inform property owners about pending tax amounts. It will provide details on payment methods and submission deadlines. It will also inform about available government concessions or schemes. All messages and calls will originate from the authorized number 8048637474, the civic body confirmed.
“This initiative is a significant step toward greater transparency and digital empowerment,” said Yash Julka, additional commissioner of the MCG. “Residents should not be confused, as this is an authorized service of the MCG. They are advised not to ignore calls and messages from this number. They should ensure timely tax payments to avoid penalties.”
The launch follows a rise in complaints from residents. They reported receiving fraudulent phone calls demanding immediate payments. The calls also issued threats for non-compliance. In several cases, callers allegedly instructed individuals to download specific mobile apps to process payments. MCG officials emphasized that no such instructions or notifications have been issued by the civic body. They urged citizens to remain vigilant against such scams.
The chatbot aims to streamline communication. It reduces confusion among taxpayers. It also protects citizens from deceptive practices related to property tax payments.
