The Noida Authority on Friday announced plans to inaugurate two long-awaited infrastructure projects — its new administrative headquarters in Sector 96 and the Bhangel Elevated Road — within the next two months, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
According to officials, both projects are nearing completion and are currently undergoing final touches. “We have decided to inaugurate these two projects in the next two months as both are being given final touches. We have directed staff to expedite the work so that they can be opened within the two-month deadline,” said Lokesh M, chief executive officer of the Noida Authority.
The 5.5-kilometer, six-lane Bhangel Elevated Road, constructed above the Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) Road, aims to improve connectivity between Noida and Greater Noida. The project, first approved in 2013, was officially launched in June 2020 with a budget of ₹468 crore. However, structural revisions and delays pushed the cost to ₹608 crore.
Once completed, the elevated corridor will link Agahpur with the Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Sector 82, bypassing traffic-heavy zones such as Chhalera, Barola, and the Bhangel markets. Officials said the new road is expected to reduce travel time significantly for daily commuters.
Construction work is progressing rapidly, with the installation of nine 60-meter steel girders near Barola Crossing expected to wrap up this week. Deck slab work is scheduled to begin immediately afterward. To facilitate the work, traffic diversions were implemented at Barola Crossing last month.
Despite the current progress, the project has missed multiple completion deadlines. Originally expected to be completed by December 2022, the timeline was later extended to December 2023 and then again to December 31, 2024. One of the key causes for the delay was a 90-meter stretch that had to be narrowed due to two existing buildings obstructing the planned alignment.
The Noida Authority’s new administrative headquarters in Sector 96 is also in its final stages. Envisioned in 2009 and spanning six acres, the twin-tower complex began construction in 2015 with an original budget of ₹478 crore. However, construction quality issues and a delay exceeding 450 days led to the blacklisting of the original contractor in 2022. A new contractor was brought on board to complete the project.
In 2023, a structural audit conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi flagged major design flaws, including incorrect pillar placement, prompting corrective measures. Following the audit and adjustments, the revised project cost was scaled down to ₹304 crore.
The Authority expects the inauguration of both projects to enhance urban mobility and administrative efficiency across the Noida region.
