The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has approved a new affordable housing scheme for the economically weaker section (EWS), officials said on Wednesday, as published by Hindustan Times.

The decision was taken during YEIDA’s 85th board meeting, chaired by authority chairman Alok Kumar. The scheme aims to accommodate the expected increase in the number of workers as operations at the Noida International Airport and various industrial projects commence.

“The scheme has been proposed keeping in mind the increase in the number of workers as the operation of the Noida International Airport and industrial projects start,” said YEIDA Chief Executive Officer Arun Vir Singh.

In addition to the housing initiative, the board cleared several key civic infrastructure projects. These include the establishment of one new police station and two fire stations in the YEIDA region. The fire stations will be built on 7,485-square-meter plots each in Sector 18 and Sector 32, officials confirmed.

To enhance recreational infrastructure and support the region’s environmental goals, the board also approved the development of two major recreational zones. A 700-hectare zone in Sector 22F and a 500-hectare zone in Sector 23B will be developed and integrated into the broader green belt of the region.

Meanwhile, a proposal by Supertech Limited to reduce the lease deposit rate on a stalled project from 25% to 5% was rejected. Singh said the board adhered to the recommendations made by the Amitabh Kant Committee, which requires developers to pay 25% of the premium amount.

“Therefore, we have rejected their proposal,” Singh added.
